######################################################################## From: Paul Ramey Subject: Prince/Miles collaboration One Prince/Miles collaboration that is available on bootleg CD is CRUCIAL. According to Hot Wacks, Miles plays on some cuts. Here is the track listing from Hot Wacks: Crucial Love (instr) Fantastic Crucial (normal) Break My Heart Sexual Suicide Girl In My Dreams Can't Stop We Can Funk Welcome to the Rat Race Witness Red Riding Hood Crucial (extended version) The H Man The disc was recorded in early 1989, and are supposed to be full band cuts as opposed to demos. Perhaps some of this material will be released in the wake of Prince's/Viktor's retirement. Has anyone out there heard this CD? If so, what is the extent of Miles' participation?? ######################################################################## From: David Rustvold Subject: Re: Prince/Miles collaboration In-Reply-To: <9402121429.AA15404@odin.cc.pdx.edu> I have this CD, and it turns out that although it's attributed to "Prince with Miles Davis and Friends" the only track with Miles Davis is Can I Play With U, mistitled on this CD as Red Riding Hood. Actually one other track on the CD, The H-Man, is Miles Davis, but it's just the song Amandla with a different title. ######################################################################## From: Jim Johnson Subject: Re: Prince/Miles collaboration Paul asked about the "Crucial" CD out there with Prince and Miles. If you are into Prince, it's one of his better boots. Miles is present on two tunes "Can I play With U?", which is the incorrect title of the song. He is also on "Crucial Love". Miles also played on a B-Side by a Prince spinoff band called Madhouse: the cut is 10 1/2, the b-side of 10. (All their songs had numerical titles.) Prince and Miles did play a New Year's Eve gig together and some of the tracks haven't been released, not even on Crucial. The 2 collaborated on some other songs, which are available: "Sticky Wicked": a Chaka Khan tune with the 2 playing on there "Penetration": is on the Miles "Black Devil" bootleg ######################################################################## From: Gordon Meltzer Subject: Re: "Crucial". I was a bit deceived when listening to it, because the sound was very bad and I had difficulties to find Miles... According to my brother, who is fan of Prince and has read much documentation on Prince bootlegs, this CD contains Prince stuff, years 1986-1987. There is only one tune with Miles, called "Red Riding Hood" on the cover, but that is in fact "Can I Play With You" (very bad sound, not exciting...). I mention that there is another Miles track, "composed by Prince", says the cover, but in fact it is "Amandla", album version, disgusting sound... If you are a Prince fan, perhaps you'd have pleasure listening to this album. But if you like Miles's music only, I don't think it's worth buying it, unless you are an absolute collector... -Erik ######################################################################## From: poppy@ids.net (Geoff Griffin) Subject: Prince and Miles Davis Prince and Miles Davis appeared live together a few times, but there are only two confirmed studio tracks that they both appeared on- Sticky Wicked (on Chaka Kahn's "CK" LP) and Can I Play With You? (aka Little Red Riding Hood, appears on the Crucial bootleg). All of the other tracks on the Crucial bootleg are accounted for, and there's no evidence to suggest that Miles was involved in any of them. Except... Some pressings of Crucial have an instrumental track called The H Man. This is reportedly the title track from the Amandla album. ########################################################################
